BREEDING PROGRAM
The pure-line research and breeding farm is located on a large expanse of land about 50 Kms from the city of Abeokuta. Based on the latest principles, the research station houses a major part of the gene pool which are the building blocks of Oba-Marshall’s range of broiler breeds.
Each and every part of the research program is well thought about and is tested with only the customer in mind. The focus here is clearly on economic traits that are critical for success in the market place such as chick numbers and cost of production at the parent stock level and cost of meat and yield at the broiler level.

The research and development programs at Oba Marshall have among the most ambitious genetic improvement plans in the industry. Selection protocols used are highly innovative with continuous and rigorous testing to ensure that targets are met and genetic progress is rapid. Painstaking screening for feed conversion and meat yield along with severe selection pressures on growth rates have ensured that Marshall breeds have an edge at the broiler level.
At the breeder level egg size, egg quality, fertility, hatchability, feed utilisation, persistency of lay, maturity are rigorously selected for among pedigrees to breed the next generations.
